The New Normal?

Nude: The New Normal?

From Snapchat selfies to topless freedom laws in places like New York and Ontario, nudity is everywhere these days. It’s in film, TV, and artistic modeling, and it honestly feels like being naked is finally becoming the new normal.

We think that is a huge win. Breaking down the shame around nudity is the first step to seeing our bodies as completely natural, not something to hide.

Reading Topless in the Park.

Have you heard of the Outdoor Co-ed Topless Pulp Fiction Appreciation Society? This New York City group hits public parks to read books completely topless, taking full advantage of local laws that allow it. You can check out what they are up to on their site: toplesspulp.com. Huge props to them for taking a bold first step to help normalize female toplessness in public!

Breaking the Stigma.

Let's face it: North America is way behind Europe when it comes to body positivity. In Europe, hitting the beach nude or topless is totally normal for people of all ages. Over here, people still struggle to separate bare breasts from sex.

It is definitely time for that stigma to go. Fun fact: it wasn't even legal for men to go topless in public until the 1930s! The more common public toplessness becomes, the sooner people will stop over-sexualizing it.

The Ultimate Freedom

At the end of the day, the naked body is literally the most natural thing on earth. Why did we ever learn to hide it and feel ashamed?

Imagine celebrating our bodies instead of covering them up. Think about how amazing it would feel to ditch a restrictive bra or heavy shirt on a scorching summer day, feeling completely free and totally zero-judgment.
